The CatalystEncounter:
Do you recognize the differences that separate us from one another but have no idea how to change things? Do you want to help to make your place of work or your community a better functioning and more welcoming environment? Do you want to be an agent of social change but simply don't know where to begin? On the CatalystEncounter you will engage in powerful dialogue and gain the tools necessary to act in beneficial ways to transform your own leadership and the communities and environments in which you live and work.
- The CatalystEncounter is a dynamic experiential learning program that explores leadership issues often overlooked in other programs.
- Participants probe internal and external constructions of identity, creating self and cultural awareness that translates into breakthrough understandings of leadership.
- The program includes education and training, site visits to community organizations led by women, visits to historic civil rights centers, dialogue and discussion through structured workshops and unstructured free time.
- Diverse populations of women are brought together to build relationships with one another, thus breaking down barriers currently present in society and allowing for transformational learning to take place.
- The CatalystEncounter fosters authentic dialogue and learning; at the heart of the learning is an explicit focus on how the dynamics of power and privilege operate in our society.
- Participants are given concrete tools of analysis and action that they can use for the rest of their lives
- In the past we have traveled to locations in and around Cincinnati, Ohio such as the Grailville Retreat Center and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center
Please contact us for information regarding the cost and scheduling of a CatalystEncounter.
- The duration and location of the CatalystEncounter can be tailored to meet the needs of a specific group or organization.
- The CatalystEncounter also consists of individual participants, with no specific group affiliation, who are interested in a transformational learning experience.
"The trip was very transforming and I think it changed all of us...it has changed me and given me a new understanding."
Sinnamon, 2004 participant
"... this trip provided students with an opportunity to learn more in a week than many people learn in a lifetime. I believe the students will gain even greater appreciation for this experience in the months and years to come."
